Four Focus Groups to Engage Communities in Digital Inclusion
In November, the DIGI-CORE project team organized four focus groups in Albania, Kosovo, and Macedonia. The aim was to understand the digital experiences and challenges faced by different groups in the region. Representatives from youth, unemployed women, older people, and other community members gathered to share their thoughts and ideas.
The focus groups were designed to evaluate the digital needs and skills of disadvantaged communities, rural women with low literacy, and digitally less experienced individuals. Participants discussed their everyday challenges, including how they access digital technology, learn new digital skills, and use e-government services. They also talked about the impact of the digital divide on their lives and how it limits their ability to engage with public institutions and participate in decision-making processes.
During the discussions, many shared that a lack of digital skills can keep them from fully benefiting from online services. They expressed a desire for more training and support so that they can confidently use digital tools. Participants also suggested practical solutions and opportunities to overcome these challenges. They believe that better digital education and easier access to technology can lead to more effective communication with public institutions and a stronger voice in public affairs.
After the focus groups, all discussions were carefully summarized in a final report. This report will be presented in future discussions to help shape policies and actions that address the digital challenges in the region. The DIGI-CORE project shows that by listening to the needs of various community groups, we can work together to build a more inclusive digital future.
